Babble is seeking a motivated telecoms professional who performs well in a fast-moving, innovative setting. The company aims to be its customers’ most trusted advisor for cloud-based technologies and is looking for talented people to support that goal.
What the role involves
This position builds and supports connections between Babble’s systems and those of partners, customers, and third-party services, enabling dependable and secure data transfers across the integration layer. The Integration Engineer designs and delivers APIs and integrations from start to finish, addresses issues in development and production, and helps maintain an integration platform that is resilient, observable, and maintainable. Responsibilities cover API design and implementation through to secure, reliable live data exchange.
Working between software development and systems architecture, the postholder partners with internal teams and external stakeholders to establish data contracts and integration needs. The role also supports engineering quality through code reviews and clear documentation, while offering opportunities to develop skills on other development initiatives.
Key Accountabilities
The successful candidate is responsible for achieving the following technical and delivery outcomes in line with agreed engineering standards, security expectations, and integration reliability. A practical, hands-on approach is expected when needed.
Integration Design & Development
- Create, build, and support integrations linking internal and external systems with .NET (C#, .NET Core / .NET 6+).
- Develop and use RESTful APIs, as well as relevant interfaces including SOAP, GraphQL, and messaging/event-based integrations. Maintain consistent practices for API versioning, publication, and support. This includes Security & Authentication.
- Apply secure authentication and authorisation at integration points, selecting suitable approaches for each use case, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, API keys, and mutual TLS. This also covers Monitoring, Troubleshooting & Reliability.
- Investigate integration failures, data inconsistencies, and performance problems in development and production, debugging across system boundaries to identify their underlying causes.
- Oversee live integrations and support logging, alerting, and observability measures so issues can be identified and addressed quickly.
Documentation, Collaboration & Engineering Standards
- Produce clear technical documentation for developed APIs and integrations so that internal teams and external users can use them effectively.
- Work with internal colleagues and external partners to establish integration requirements and data contracts, manage expectations, and communicate progress throughout delivery.
- Take part in code reviews and support team engineering standards, including CI/CD practices and Git-based workflows.

Qualifications
- Demonstrable commercial development experience using .NET (C#, .NET Core / .NET 6+).
- Strong knowledge of API development, including the design, creation, versioning, and use of RESTful web APIs.
- A solid understanding of integration and API security principles, including the secure management of data while in transit and at rest.
- Practical knowledge of authentication and authorisation approaches such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, API keys, and mutual TLS, including awareness of when each method should be used.
- Ability to work with standard data formats including JSON and XML, along with familiarity with version control through Git and CI/CD practices.
- Strong analytical problem-solving capability, including debugging across system boundaries.
Additional advantages for the role
- Experience with message brokers or event-driven architectures, including Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, and Kafka, as well as familiarity with cloud platforms; Azure is preferred.
- Exposure to integration platforms or middleware such as Azure Logic Apps, MuleSoft, or BizTalk.
- Knowledge of API gateways and rate limiting.
- Awareness of prevalent security standards and risks, including the OWASP API Security Top 10.
