Job Description
Become part of our energetic team as a Developer!
This opportunity is suited to someone with a strong interest in telecoms who performs well in a fast-moving and innovative setting. Babble aims to be its customers’ most trusted advisor for cloud-based technologies and is seeking capable, motivated professionals to strengthen its team.
What will you be doing?
The main purpose of this position is to create, develop, and support bespoke software solutions that expand the capabilities of the company platform and link it with partner systems, customer environments, and third-party services, while ensuring dependable and secure data exchange. The role is mainly centred on enhancing existing functionality and building integrations, while also covering the design and delivery of complete standalone solutions for customers and, when needed, for internal purposes.
The Developer is expected to deliver solutions from end to end, address issues found in both development and live environments, and support a technology platform that remains resilient, observable, and maintainable. Responsibility includes taking custom solutions from initial design and implementation through to secure and reliable production operation, whether the work involves extending an existing system, integrating it with another platform, or building a standalone product. The role combines software development with solution architecture, requires close cooperation with internal teams and external customers to gather requirements and define data contracts, supports engineering quality through code reviews and clear documentation, and may also involve contributing skills to other development initiatives across the business when relevant.
Main Accountabilities
The person in this role will be responsible for achieving the following technical and delivery objectives, with outcomes measured against agreed engineering standards, security expectations, and solution reliability, while remaining hands-on whenever necessary.
Solution & Integration Design and Development
- Create, develop, and support custom solutions using .NET (C#, .NET Core / .NET 6+), mainly by enhancing current platform capabilities and building integrations across internal and external systems.
- Develop and use RESTful APIs, as well as other interface types such as SOAP, GraphQL, or messaging/event-driven integrations when applicable; ensure APIs are versioned, published, and maintained to consistent standards.
- Deliver complete standalone solutions for customers, and at times for internal use, when requirements extend beyond adapting or connecting existing systems, taking the work from requirements through to final delivery.
Security & Authentication
- Apply secure authentication and authorisation across the solutions and integrations developed, using appropriate approaches for each case, such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, API keys, or mutual TLS.
Monitoring, Troubleshooting & Reliability
- Investigate and resolve failures in solutions and integrations, data inconsistencies, and performance-related problems across both development and production environments, debugging across system and application boundaries to identify root causes.
- Oversee production solutions and integrations and contribute to logging, alerting, and observability practices that enable quick identification and resolution of issues.
Documentation, Collaboration & Engineering Standards
- Produce clear technical documentation for the solutions, APIs, and integrations developed so they can be effectively used by internal teams and external users.
- Work closely with internal teams and external customers to understand requirements, define data contracts and integration specifications, and convert them into technical designs, while managing expectations and keeping stakeholders informed on progress.
- Take part in code reviews and help maintain engineering standards within the team, while contributing to CI/CD practices and Git-based workflows.
The Employer reserves the right to amend the employee's job title or description to meet its business needs subject to giving the employee reasonable notice.
Qualifications
- Strong commercial experience working with .NET (C#, .NET Core / .NET 6+), with the ability to contribute independently on a feature or solution as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong knowledge of API development, including the design, creation, versioning, and consumption of RESTful web APIs.
- Experience developing custom features, extensions, or applications alongside integration work, ideally with some involvement in delivering a standalone solution for a customer or an internal team.
- Sound understanding of security principles for applications, integrations, and APIs, including the secure handling of data both in transit and at rest.
- Practical experience with authentication and authorisation methods such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, API keys, and mutual TLS, together with an understanding of when each method should be used.
- Confidence in working with common data formats like JSON and XML, along with familiarity with version control through Git and CI/CD practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with the capability to take a solution from initial requirements through to production support, including debugging across system boundaries when required.
What Else Looks Good For This Role
- Experience working with message brokers or event-driven architectures, for example Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, or Kafka.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
- Exposure to integration platforms or middleware such as Azure Logic Apps, MuleSoft, or BizTalk.
- Understanding of API gateways and rate limiting.
- Awareness of common security standards and threats, including the OWASP API Security Top 10.
