ISA Consulting is seeking an experienced Cloud Operations Database Administrator with strong AWS knowledge to build, oversee, and improve its cloud database environment. This position focuses on maintaining dependable, secure, and scalable databases that power both internal operations and customer-facing applications in a 24x7 setting. The role works in close partnership with development, security, and operations teams to apply best practices in database performance, automation, and cost control. It calls for practical technical ability, sound strategic judgment, and an active approach to resolving issues. The work in this role has a direct effect on application speed, operational effectiveness, and the success of the broader cloud strategy. It is well suited to a results-oriented professional who performs well in fast-changing environments and can deliver secure, efficient, and economical database solutions.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Database Deployment & Configuration: Set up and configure cloud database environments including AWS RDS, EC2, NoSQL, and Databricks. Establish clustering, replication, and failover mechanisms to support high availability. Move on-premises databases into cloud platforms.
- Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Track database condition and query efficiency through CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and other AWS or third-party tools. Detect and fix bottlenecks, refine queries, and adjust instance capacity or storage tiers to maintain an effective balance between performance and cost.
- Security & Compliance: Apply IAM roles, encryption through KMS, and security groups to protect data. Maintain compliance with standards and regulations such as GDPR, ITAR, HIPAA, and SOC 2. Review permissions regularly and preserve secure access management.
- Backup, Recovery & Disaster Preparedness: Set up automated backups, snapshots, and point-in-time recovery. Prepare and test disaster recovery plans. Maintain point-in-time recovery functionality at both database and instance levels.
- Automation and Scripting: Create scripts and automated workflows for recurring activities such as scaling, patching, and monitoring by using AWS CLI, PowerShell, and Python. Use Infrastructure-as-Code tools including Terraform and CloudFormation to support consistent deployments.
- Patch Management & Upgrades: Implement patches, updates, and version upgrades with minimal service interruption. Assess newly introduced features and services when they become available.
- Cost & Resource Optimization: Track usage and spending through AWS Cost Explorer, Trusted Advisor, and similar tools. Improve storage, compute, and licensing choices to keep costs under control.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Investigate and solve database problems, participate in on-call support for critical incidents, and work with development and operations teams on application-related issues.
- Documentation & Process Improvement: Keep thorough records of database architecture, settings, and procedures. Support the ongoing enhancement of operational processes.
Requirements and Skills
- Strong knowledge of AWS RDS and Aurora (server and serverless)
