Role Overview
Position Overview
Because cryptocurrency markets operate continuously and completed transactions cannot be reversed, this role ensures that each deposit, withdrawal, trade settlement, OTC transaction leg, staking distribution, and institutional transfer is executed accurately and punctually every time.
The position oversees millions of dollars in client and corporate assets each year, where an incorrect address or network can result in a permanent loss. It therefore requires someone who remains effective under pressure, pays close attention to detail, and regards 100% accuracy as the expected baseline.
You will manage daily settlement operations, take responsibility for the overall control environment, and serve as the key escalation point for issues before they are referred to the Deputy CFO.
Key Responsibilities
Core Activities
Ensure Accurate, Continuous Settlements
- Manage the full settlement process, covering incoming and outgoing crypto, fiat disbursements, stablecoin movements, OTC trades, and institutional funding.
- Verify that each transaction reaches the correct asset, network, memo/tag, and address without exception.
- Work across multiple chains, including BTC, ETH, L2s, Solana, and Tron, while handling gas fees, congestion, and reorgs.
- Operate within dual-control/four-eyes arrangements, approving authorised actions and escalating items outside your authority.
- Directly manage high-value, VIP, and institutional settlements, including required callback verification before funds are moved.
Maintain Complete Reconciliations
- Lead daily reconciliation of on-chain balances, exchange ledgers, custodians, and bank accounts, ensuring that unexplained discrepancies are addressed.
- Keep client funds separate from company funds and maintain documentation demonstrating that separation.
- Investigate and resolve unusual cases, such as pending transactions, deposits sent through an incorrect network, dust, and missing memos.
- Maintain an accurate break log and root-cause record, providing Finance with a clear weekly overview.
Oversee Wallets and Liquidity
- Ensure hot, warm, and cold wallets are sufficiently funded and balanced so settlement activity is not delayed by liquidity shortages.
- Participate in signing processes involving MPC, multi-sig, and HSM, including quorum ceremonies and break-glass procedures.
- Anticipate liquidity gaps and raise them before they become operational issues.
- Act as the primary contact for custodians, banks, PSPs, market makers, and liquidity providers when resolution is required.
Lead the Control Environment
- Develop and maintain the settlement-control framework, including whitelisting, limits, velocity checks, approval matrices, and audit trails.
- Conduct pre-transaction screening through the Travel Rule, sanctions checks, and Chainalysis/Elliptic/TRM, placing questionable activity on hold.
- Explain practical settlement operations to auditors and regulators.
- Keep runbooks and disaster-recovery plans up to date and ensure they are tested rather than merely stored.
- Ensure that no individual, including yourself, can transfer client funds independently.
Respond Effectively to Incidents
- Take charge when disruptions occur, including delayed withdrawals, banking outages, custodian downtime, chain halts, forks, or other suspicious circumstances.
- Coordinate freeze, recall, and recovery actions with Compliance, Risk, Legal, Security, and Support.
- Convert each incident into operational improvements by updating controls to prevent a recurrence in the same form.
Develop the Team and Improve Operations
- Manage and expand the settlement team in a 24/7 environment, ensuring effective handovers and clear escalation paths.
- Promote automation where appropriate to reduce manual work, improve tooling, and limit opportunities for human error.
- Collaborate with Client Support to explain settlement problems clearly when clients require assistance.
- Take ownership of KPIs and present them to leadership and, at times, the Board.
Qualifications
Candidate Profile
- 3–5+ years of experience in settlement, payment operations, treasury, custody, or financial-services back-office roles, including at least one year of team leadership.
- Demonstrable hands-on crypto-settlement experience gained at an exchange, custodian, OTC desk, market maker, prime broker, or a similar setting.
- Fluency in English and Russian.
- Strong knowledge of on-chain mechanics, including addresses, memos, confirmations, fees, chains, and token standards, as well as the consequences of errors in these areas.
- Experience owning reconciliation at meaningful transaction volumes rather than only reviewing another person's spreadsheet.
- Familiarity with fiat payment rails, including SWIFT, SEPA, Fedwire/ACH, Faster Payments, and stablecoin on/off-ramps.
- Experience working in audited, dual-control environments and an understanding of the purpose behind those controls.
- Prior experience managing an actual settlement crisis.
- Exceptional attention to detail combined with sound judgment on what should be corrected discreetly, escalated, or brought to the CFO's attention.
