WE ARE HIRING | PLC & Automation Programmer
Join AETHERION – International Industrial Automation & Engineering Opportunities
AETHERION is expanding its engineering team and is looking for a skilled, motivated, and technically capable PLC & Automation Programmer to work closely with one of our key industrial clients.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to industrial automation projects, work with advanced control technologies, and gain valuable international experience in real operating environments.
The successful candidate will support engineering activities directly at client facilities, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, troubleshoot technical challenges, and professionally represent AETHERION throughout each assignment.
This is not a purely desk-based programming position. It combines software development with practical engineering, commissioning, on-site technical support, and direct involvement in industrial operations.
We are looking for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, takes responsibility for their work, and is motivated to develop professionally within a growing engineering company.
The Role – Job Responsibilities
Develop PLC, motion control, and HMI software for machines and industrial systems, from initial design through to testing and commissioning.
Design modern, intuitive operator interfaces, ensuring an excellent user experience both on machine-mounted panels and through remote access.
Write structured, modular, and well-documented code in accordance with company standards.
Integrate drives, sensors, communication networks, and safety devices.
Manage projects across different automation platforms according to customer requirements.
Oversee machine start-ups, testing and acceptance procedures (FAT/SAT), and provide on-site technical support at customer facilities.
Collaborate with the mechanical and electrical engineering departments, as well as the service team.
Be available for frequent business trips, including extended assignments, both within Italy and internationally.
Motion control with ACOPOS drives: Electronic camming, electronic gearing, axis synchronization, and axis interpolation.
Web-based HMI development using mappView: Complete design and development of operator interfaces, including layouts, widgets, navigation, alarms, recipes, trends, user management, and multilingual functionality, as well as connecting interface elements to variables through OPC UA binding. Knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript for customization and the development of custom widgets is considered an advantage, as is familiarity with Visual Components for maintaining existing machines.
Communication and hardware: POWERLINK networks, X20 modules, and OPC UA communication.
Programming languages: IEC 61131-3 languages, particularly Structured Text. Knowledge of C/C++ programming within the B&R environment is considered an advantage.
Professional experience: At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience working on real-world projects using B&R automation systems.
A significant proportion of our customers use Rockwell Automation systems, so the ability to work independently and confidently with this platform is also required.
Good working knowledge of Studio 5000 Logix Designer, specifically with ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers.
Experience managing tags, User-Defined Data Types (UDTs), Add-On Instructions (AOIs), and task structures (continuous, periodic, and event-triggered tasks).
Programming experience in Ladder Logic and Structured Text.
Knowledge of EtherNet/IP networks and integration of third-party devices.
Familiarity with FactoryTalk View and Kinetix/PowerFlex drives is considered an advantage.
