Mikkena is seeking candidates who have a real interest in developing a career in Network Engineering.
This internship is designed for applicants with a networking background, particularly those who have completed a CCNA course, obtained a CCNA certification, or possess knowledge at an equivalent CCNA level.
This role is not aimed at software developers, programmers, or software engineers. The position is intended for people who want to advance in networking, infrastructure, routing, switching, security, and related technologies.
At Mikkena, the internship is not treated as a short engagement lasting only one or two months. The company’s intention is to identify motivated individuals, train them, and create the possibility for them to join the team on a long-term basis.
Minimum requirement:
Applicants are expected to have foundational networking knowledge at CCNA level or above. People who do not have networking knowledge or who are not interested in Network Engineering are not considered suitable for this role.
The Intern Network Engineer role involves carrying out network configurations and supporting secure, efficient data communications. The position includes installing, configuring, maintaining, updating, and monitoring active network equipment and security components to ensure the customer’s network operates properly and safely as needed. The intern is also expected to provide Project Manager and Technical/Team Lead with status updates on completed tasks, current issues, and progress toward objectives.
Job Responsibilities
- Works under close supervision, with all areas of work subject to general review.
- Gains fundamental knowledge and builds skills within a defined practice area.
- Must be able to show the knowledge and best practices gained during a specific period of time (6 months - best candidates will continue with Mikkena).
- Uses standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to complete assigned duties.
- Takes part in the implementation team for approved network architecture and designs.
- Installs, configures, and supports network equipment required by assigned projects, including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, and similar technologies.
- Supports the preparation and documentation of technical standards and applies approved methods of procedure.
- Participates in project meetings with customers.
- Follows and respects the company’s internal policies and procedures.
- MUST have strong spoken and written communication skills in English.
Certifications / Knowledge level and Skills
- Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
- Basic understanding of industry products and services.
- Familiarity with the network engineering domain.
- Knowledge of basic network devices and network appliances.
- Basic understanding of relevant industry specifications and standards such as IEEE, ANSI, bridging, switching, routing, ethernet, and transport technologies and protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in a very fast-paced environment and to learn new technologies quickly.
- Preferably Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or an equivalent credential.
- Preferably familiar with network design, network architecture, and protocols.
