General Summary:

Performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Calibrates and maintains equipment and orders supplies when needed. Independently produces radiographs of the highest possible quality for medical diagnostic purposes, in an atmosphere that promotes high patient satisfaction. Set up and operate ultrasound equipment, along with properly positioning the patient, in order to produce high quality diagnostic images in conjunction with the radiologists in the performance of diagnostic procedures.

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinates exams, documents/records clinical findings, and prepares and maintains operational logs.
  • Diagnostic ultrasound technologists are responsible for the performance of diagnostic ultrasound procedures.
  • Educates patient and others regarding procedures and related information as demonstrated by documentation and feedback.
  • Technologist is responsible for room preparation in anticipation of the examination; i.e., assuring that the supplies necessary for the examination are present and in a state of readiness.
  • Maintain records of patients treated, examinations performed, views taken and settings used.
  • Responsible for the proper power up and utilization of warming techniques for equipment.
  • May be moved to other offices upon request based upon the business need of Holston Medical Group on an occasional basis

Education/Experience/Knowledge

  • Requires a two year Allied Health Degree, successful completion of an approved one-year program in Ultrasound Technology, and at least 2 years of experience in the field.
  • Requires registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or (ARRT) American Registry of Radiological Technologist
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Thorough knowledge of various ultrasound procedures and equipment including: proper technique and positioning, anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required
  • PACS Operating Knowledge preferred

Perform with frequent interruptions and/ or distractions. Make appropriate job decisions following standard office policies and past precedents. Adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public. Ability to interact appropriately with colleagues and patients for different purposes and different context. Heavy work excreting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move object.

Marginal: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 25% of the time. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. Work independently and identify potentially more effective methods of work operations. Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. Ability to identify and distinguish colors. Occasionally operates computer and other machinery.
